Big-Screen Smartphone Lovers Behold: Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus Are Coming

After numerous leaks and official teasers, Xiaomi finally introduced a new generation of budget smartphones — Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus. They come with elongated screens and thin bezels on top and bottom. Let’s see what the new devices have else.

The housing of the smartphones apart from the antenna lines on the back and the display is made of metal. The back of the phones is slightly curved at the sides, which will definitely soften the feel when holding the phone. Both handsets have a fingerprint scanner sitting under the main camera and a microSD card slot, which lets you add up to 128GB of storage.

If you want a smartphone with a bigger display and you do not want to pay much for it one of these two devices is a great option. Redmi 5 offers a 5.7-inch display with 1440×720 HD+ resolution, 282ppi and 72% NTSC color gamut. Redmi 5 Plus is screen-heavier and boasts a 5.99-inch display with impressive 2160×1080 FHD+ resolution, 403ppi and 84% NTSC color gamut. The aspect ratio of both gadgets is super-wide — 18:9.

The two are equipped with a single-camera module around the back, which is a 12MP sensor with a LED flash, phase detection autofocus and an aperture size of f/2.2. On the front, there is an 8MP sensor with 1080p and 720p video capture, both at 30fps.

Redmi 5 boards a Snapdragon 450 processor clocked at 1.8GHz and Redmi 5 Plus has a Snapdragon 625 clocked at 2.0GHz. These are mid-range chipsets, but they are one of the best options for smartphones at a lower-price range. Both chipsets are backed by an Adreno 506 GPU and either of two memory packages: 2GB/3GB and 16GB/32GB for Redmi 5, 3GB/4GB and 32GB/64GB for Redmi 5 Plus.

Apart from a display size and SoC the smartphones differ in the battery capacity as well. Redmi 5 sports a 3300mAh tank and Redmi 5 Plus is powered by a 4000mAh one. Both devices can be charged through the microUSB slot at the bottom. It terms of connectivity settings the two smartphones are alike, having 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 (b/g/n on Redmi 5 and a/b/g/n on Redmi 5 Plus), Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/A-GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack.
