If you are on the hunt for a smartphone with a large screen, a great performance and a solid battery, Xiaomi has something for you from the newest generation of its smartphones. Today the company has unveiled Mi Max 2 and it is one of the longest-lasting smartphones around.
Design
Mi Max 2 is a full-metal-bodied smartphone with a large
Unlike Mi Max, the new smartphone will not be known for its antenna lines on its rear, because they now adorn the edges of the smartphone.
For all those who watched in horror as Xiaomi removed a 3.5mm jack from Mi 6 — nothing to worry about this time. Mi Max 2 has it. It also sports a USB Type-C port, stereo speakers on the front, a fingerprint scanner on the back and IR-blaster to control your home electronics.
Performance
The processing unit is exactly the same as the one in the first Mi Max, except it uses 14 nm process that is reportedly more energy-efficient. Overall, the specs are very competitive for the price tag. The smartphone packs an octa-core Snapdragon 625 chipset clocking at 2GHz, paired with 650MHz Adreno 506 GPU. It runs Android 7.1 with MIUI 8.2 laid on top.
Digging into the RAM and storage, things are pretty standard. You can choose from 4GB of RAM + 64GB of flash memory and 4GB of RAM + 128GB of flash memory. It is also worth saying that Mi Max 2 supports microSD cards up to 128GB.
Camera
The smartphone is equipped with a 12MP Sony primary sensor with HDR, phase detection autofocus and advanced night shooting capabilities. Xiaomi increased the pixel size to 1.25 μm that allows even better performance in low light. The smartphone supports 4K video capture at 30fps or 720p capture at 120fps.
Battery life
Xiaomi Mi Max 2 boards a 5300 mAh non-removable power tank. It is a more generous offering than what prior Mi Max had and it is the beefiest battery Xiaomi ever packed into a smartphone. As the company claims the gadget will comfortably work two days on a single charge with moderate usage and endure for 18 hours of video playback and 9 hours of gaming. On top of that, the smartphone is equipped with a Quick Charge 3.0 + Parallel Charging technology that lets the battery recover from dead-zero to 68% in just one hour.
The gap between Mi Max 2 and the original Mi Max is not that wide as you would expect. Yet, despite having a few similar features to a previous model, because of its hefty battery alone the new Mi Max is going to be a much more pleasant device to use.
