Xiaomi is number one in China

Xiaomi has single-handedly disrupted China’s smartphone market in a short span of time. The company topped the market as the biggest smartphone vendor in 2014, despite competition from Apple’s iPhone 6.

According to stats provided by IDC, Xiaomi edged past Apple, Samsung, Lenovo, Huawei, and all other rivals during last year. Ever since its inception, the company has blown the Chinese market away with its smartphone offerings. The company has kept on climbing in terms of market share as well as sales in the past few years. Xiaomi had a 13.7% market share in the fourth quarter of 2014, whereas Apple fell in second place with only 12.3% share of the Chinese smartphone market, IDC reports.

Apple is taking away market share from Samsung at the high-end, while local Chinese vendors are cutting its share at the low end. Third place Huawei had an 11 percent share, while Lenovo had 9.5 percent of the market.

Overall, China’s smartphone market grew 19 percent year-over-year in the fourth quarter. But the high demand is tapering off, given that the year-over-year growth was once over 60 percent back in 2013.
